Our Highlights and Achievements for 2005
In 2005, BCPNG:
- continued to actively participate in matters of interest to members
- were consulted on many and various policy matters, and
- maintained an ongoing dialogue with the Government.
We continued our important role as a member in the National Working Group to remove impediments to business, chaired by the Chief Secretary to Government.
In our endeavor to be representative of the business community in Papua New Guinea, we also worked closely with other industry associations.
Activities in which BCPNG was involved in 2004 include:
- Membership to the Consultative Implementation and Monitoring Council (CIMC) where we play an important role in directing government opinions to facilitate policy formulation, where such policies properly reflect wider community support and positions and needs.
- Continued close cooperation with our counterpart, the Australia PNG Business Council (APNGBC). We jointly held the 20th Business Forum in Cairns which was well attended by Papua New Guinean Senior Ministers.
- Papers delivered at this Forum were of great relevance to Papua New Guinea, and while some aspects of the economy were reported to be on their way to recovery and a brighter future, there is a lot more to be done in certain sectors of the economy. This includes tourism development and many infrastructure issues such as improvement and efficiency of telecommunication.
- Involvement in the Ministerial Forum held in Lae between the Papua New Guinea and Australian Government in December 2004. At this Forum, we released a joint statement with the APNGBC, attached below.
